Repair Men May Gyp You →

tonight I was driving home and thirsty for a good read. nothing I could think of sounded good. But then I remembered meeting this guy at the everett swap meet a few years ago before it closed down and they built a hospital in its place. (where did all those people go?) the guy I met was selling a book called ‘yankee hobo in the orient’ It had a really cool cover. the guy selling it told me the author was from snohomish and had only died a few years ago. He said he was a charachter and was often seen picking up trash in snohomish. He mentioned that while ‘yankee hobo’ was a good book, he had written a much more interesting book that documents an experiment of himself and others driving around the country and pulling into garages with something that any mechanic could easily notice and correct in a minute, but then to see how they were treated by all the mechanics they took their car to along the way, hundreds of them! I thought this was a real interesting idea. with a little bit of research I found an ebook online and now Im glad I did.

thoughts about dancing after a long weekend:

A couple months back I played a wednesday night show at the conor byrne. it wasnt the greatest turnout, but what made my night was a couple dancing to one of my songs. Id seen this couple dancing around town in different bars and outdoor concerts for last couple years around Seattle. I always admired the way that they danced together whether it was a hopping honky tonk kind of night, or a sunday afternoon at a street fair. the joy they derived from dancing was independant of anything except the dancing itself. I always get the feeling that ‘this is where its at’ when I see them dancing, cause they got the pulse on the country dance scene of seattle, even if they are the only ones doing it. thats why I was so happy to see them dancing to one of my songs on a quiet wednesday night in december. I was reminded of this cause I saw them dancing and hanging out at the ballard seafood fest yesterday.

Sometimes I see things that I wish I had a video camara for, though even if a I did have camara its often too late. While surfing the net yesterday I found that someone had video taped this dude I saw dancing while I was onstage for a show we played at westlake a few weeks back. I thought he had some serious moves and am glad they were recorded! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqFHpgv9dHc (this link is just to video thats already on top)

and this is just bizarre (also from the Westlake show):

these pictures are from fixing the Moondoggies van after the front end was destroyed by a deer in the headlights last fall while touring through the midwest. according to my dad, ‘where theres a will, theres a way’. check out all the cars after rigormortis has set in, their hoods pop up!

I haven’t been focusing on songwriting so much, but Ive been developing something else through all this experience Ive had in the last few months. not sure what to call it (tone, texture, depth, feel, perspective?) Also, Ive never been more enthused to learn other peoples songs. Ive heard a lot of new stuff lately and its been blowing my mind. (alright its mostly Jim White, but can ya blame me? for the whole month of May this was just about the only song I would play -

Right now I don’t have any solo shows set up, but keep posted via this blog and facebook and twitter and Ill let you know if something comes up. I just got a new super portable laptop so I am planning on being more active with all this social media stuff which is all centralized around my new and improved website http://www.pontrello.com/jon . I hope you can make it to some upcoming musical events.

starting a blog. 3am

Its seemed like an overwhelmingly good idea to start a blog in the last few days. It just so happens that the first chance I’ve got to do so is at 3am!

I look forward to filling this log with lots of writing about what Im up to, as well as music and photos. Right now I have a bunch of other online social media websites, but I haven’t really been tending any of them. I am planning to use this website as a way of reigniting them all, and helping to connect them. This websites a lot easier to update then the other ones. Right now I want to let you know about some shows coming up in the next week that Im excited about : (they are both FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE)
